We bring you... WHOA! STOCK: A NYE 09/10 Boutique Festival Experience

This year sees the 40th anniversary of the birth of the festival of festivals, Woodstock. To celebrate, this New Years Eve, Mono Bar and Rhino Club are teaming up with us here at Say Whoa to put on Southampton's premier boutique festival experience in the heart of the city, without the sound restrictions, the mud and all at an affordable price. You can expect and intimate and friendly club experience, with a big room carnival party atmosphere.

We've worked hard to put on an eclectic selection of music so there is something for everyone to enjoy. The vast soundscape will include classic hip-hop, soul, funk, boogie, mash ups, party breaks, electro, house, fidget, Baltimore club, dubstep and everything in between. This will be spread across two venues and four stages with plenty of entertainment bridging them all in true festival style.

This is a brand new and fresh approach to New Year celebrations in Southampton and we can't wait to share it with you.

Here is a little taster of what you can expect:

❚❚❚❚❚❚ MONO ❚❚❚❚❚❚ 8pm - 3am
-------------------------------------------------------------
The Above Mono Stage: What Time Is It?

What Time Is It? resident selectors The Wolf and Funky MF will be joined by Mr Muffle and DJ Yogi as they dig through their collections for a night of Past, Present, Future Hip Hop, Soul, Funk & Boogie.

Keepin the Funk alive from '85!

--------------------------
Mono Main Stage

Kicking off the party vibe from 8pm DJs Alex the Kidd, Envious Mind, Cluffy and Trucko will be serving up a whole host of musical styles from hip-hop anthems, mash ups, party breaks, electro a little later on and much, much more.

We’ve pulled in all our close friends who also happen to be great DJ’s to play a set each of their favourite music spanning a vast array of genres. Already on the bill we have Back 2 Basics resident and party master Ben Owens. We are also very excited to have Deejay Budd coming down to play a seriously cheese free hip hop set digging out all that good stuff from around '92.

Say Whoa! Presents: Masquerade Party 23/10/09

So, it's approaching that time of the month again to hear the bass and Say Whoa!

This month we're throwing a masquerade party because Doc McCoy watched Stanley Kubrick's 'Eye's Wide Shut' not too long ago and the repeated sex, spanking and drinking reminded him of Say Whoa! SO... We thought we'd throw to two together and make a night of it!

In preparation you can make a mask, buy a mask, pull that mask out of the back of your cupboard as anything goes. If you like your face more than your mask, bring it along anyway and wear it on the back of your head and as always, our resident face painter Nina, will be on hand to paint some slick designs all over your chevy chase! We're all about having a lot of fun here at Say Whoa to some beats, bleeps, synths, bass and bad ass acapellas so jump in and get involved!

As usual you can trust Say Whoa residents Doc McCoy, R-Kid and i-Dope to bring you the freshest new tracks as well as much loved classics with some mash ups, party breaks, fidget, dub step and more thrown in just for good measure. Glo sticks are available and Stacy the smoke machine will be back in full force to help transport you to a really ravey place.

So in summary, with great drink deals, cutting edge music and damn good vibes all for a few nuggets... You can't go wrong.

See you on the dancefloor.

For all information and to rsvp CLICK HERE

Time: 9pm - 2am
Venue: Orange Rooms, Southampton
Entry is £2 after 9pm and £3 after 10pm
Dress code: Masquerade (not mandatory but join the fun and throw caution to the wind)

It Was Bananas!!

So as you might have guessed from previous posts we had Sammy Bananas come and help us celebrate our 1st birthday on the 18th September. The hype was real and it WENT OFF! So a big thanks to Sammy for playing a sick, sick set going from party to electro to dubstep which is exactly how we like it here at Say Whoa! As ever the Whoa massive turned out in force rocking the right colour theme and made Orange Rooms a sea of yellow. Stay tuned to Say Whoa! as we have 2 parties this month which we are very excited about.

New Chromeo Single “Night By Night”

I for one have been waiting a very long time for this, Chromeo's brand new track and first original since 2007's seminal album 'Fancy Footwork'. The new jam is titled "Night by Night" and is available for free over at Green Label Sound. As you would expect from Dave 1 & P-Thugg, it's 80's... It's very 80's with that classic snare sound, driving synths, soaring guitars and catchy vocal hooks. Oh and not forgetting their now signature vocoder. If you EVER get a chance to see these guys live, do it... do it at any cost and I assure you won't be disappointed.

Remixes from Skream and & Siriusmo to follow. How exciting!

Stay fresh!
Doc McCoy

Say Whoa! Presents: SAMMY BANANAS (FOOLS GOLD RECORDS/ NYC)

Have you heard? Say Whoa is a year old and we cordially invite you to come and join us to celebrate our 1st Birthday. We're very lucky to be joined by the one and only Sammy Bananas who's flying in from NYC to party with us all night long. In his honour, this night is going to be straight up bananas from start to finish with bananas galore, some special drinks, a soundtrack that will send you ape as well as all your favourites such as glow sticks and a few other cheeky surprises.

=======================================
SAMMY BANANAS (FOOLS GOLD RECORDS/NYC)
=======================================
www.myspace.com/sammybananas

Rising Brooklyn remixer and party maestro Sammy Bananas lives up to his name by crafting ecstatic tracks that ditch trendy production tricks in favor of pure pop satisfaction. The approach has already made fans out of influential BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac and platinum producer Will.i.am, who ran up to the DJ booth at Sammy's last LA show to shout "YOU made this?!?".

Sammy stunned the DJ community in early '08 with his inventive bootleg of N.E.R.D's "Everyone Nose" which he rechristened as "All The Girls." He debuted the remix on the Screaming Bloody Murder tour in which he traveled North America with A-Trak, Sinden and Steve Aoki. The track was played across the world and became a staple in sets by heavyweights like A-Trak and Flosstradamus. After tours through both Europe and Australia in late '08, Sammy hit the ground sprinting in 2009 with remixes of buzzing acts Thunderheist and Passion Pit.

"He's definitely worth checking out, one for the future and an absolute party starter. Genius." - Jaymo & Andy George

"Wow I love these tracks! I don't know which one to play on the radio!" - Annie Mac

"In a musical climate where so many DJs and producers are doing the same thing as the next guy, Sammy Bananas is a breath of fresh air. His music is full of character and can be best described by one word: funky" - A-Trak

Free mixes/ remixes are available on his Myspace page and they are schweeeeeet!

See you in September for our yellow banana party featuring the king of parties and potassium, Mr Sammy Bananas!

Michael Jackson Tribute: Boys Noize Style

Back in October of 2007, myself and Cpt. Kerk went on a road trip up to Leeds to see Boys Noize play with Chromeo in can what can only be described as several hours of being audibly punched in the face. Ever since then I've dubbed Alex 'Boys Noize' Ridha 'the milkman' as he ALWAYS delivers. Here is a video of him doing just that and paying tribute to the late and great MJ.

Chamone mutha fucka!

Daft... Tron?

Some of you may be thinking that Daft Punk have been awfully quiet of late. The reason being is that they were commissioned by Disney to produce the score for the upcoming Tron Legacy film. Ignore the geeks in the attached video and you'll be able to hear the sweet sounds of Daft Punk's latest work.

Mmmm yummy!

WHOA! This video is s-s-serious

So, I had my heart set on booking these Morris Minor & the Majors guys and have them d-d-dropping fresh beats all over our first birthday knees up. But, sadly, the rest of the gang have cast their vote against me and invoked their right to veto my decision. Instead choosing FOOL’S GOLD’s very own Sammy Bananas.

Damn you democracy.

Keep and ear to the street and stay tuned boppers.

Cpt. James Tiberius Kerk.

If you were at the last party you will have seen me painting the board and a couple of canvases to raffle off. Here is one of our lucky winners......and his mate. There will be another chance to win some art work on the 21st so come down and get involved. Remember, you've gotta be in it to win it.

HOW WE ROLL

One track has dominated the shot gun calls between R-Kid, Doc McCoy and myself this month and I still dont know who will end up playing it. It just might end up getting dropped in all 3 sets and I'm not sure that would be a bad thing as it is a fooking monster.

If you're coming down on the 19th, get your thizz face ready for this one. It seems to have been knocking around for a couple of months but i have only just stumbled across it. AGGY!

Nyle - "Let The Beat Build"

We are more than partial to some great hip-hop jams over here at Whoa! Towers. This video featuring young rap upstart Nyle, covers Lil Wayne's 'Let the Beat Build' from his album 'Tha Carter III'. Shot in one take with the audio being recorded simultaneously with the film, it stars a wide range of young musicians gradually adding more elements to the song (and generally having a bit of fun). I have to say it's a welcome move away from the 50 Cent side of the genre preaching to children that they need to get rich, or die trying. Nice.

Enjoy!

Say Whoa & Secret Wars

Here's whats going down...

Secret Wars is the World’s premier live art battle – working in similar ways to Fight Club, Secret Wars battles are set up & promoted through word of mouth.

The Secret Wars Grand Final is here and its been a long and entertaining journey. Defending champion Gustav has made it again, but Rem 1 DNK who has impressed the judges and the crowds is more than ready and capable of stealing the title to become Secret Wars Series 2 Champion!

Both artists will battle it out for the £500 cash prize, a load of goodies supplied to us by our sponsors and of course a place in the London tournament. This was always going to be a busy night, so we’ve decided to go all out with the entertainment. We have Jimi Crayon hosting the night along with our residents Mr Muffle & R-Kid, playing upstairs and downstairs. We’ve got our secret wars favourite beat-boxer REEPS 1 www.myspace.com/reeps1 to come down and seriously put the Soul Cellar sound system to the maximum test and if you thought that was all we’ve got special guest DJ Session.

Session is a unique producer/DJ who is taking over the club scene with his own brand of forward thinking dance music productions, remixes and genre-blurring DJ sets.

Session has produced for artists such as UK Hip-Hop’s Brotherman, Street Politiks and with Drum&Bass’ Superking. In addition he produces under other alias’, Noisses: Dubstep (bass heavy beats), Equalizers: Breakbeat (electro sounds for the dance floor), and Session And The Bear as a collaboration with Polarbear (thought provoking story telling).

Check out www.myspace.com/session70 to hear more.

If thats not enough... Say Whoa will be taking over downstairs of the Soul Cellar playing the usual type of hype to keep the party going to the early hours.

Entry is £3 before 10 and £5 after.

There’s plenty of FREE parking opposite the Soul Cellar and a load of drinks offers at the bar.

HYPE HYPE!!

Say Whoa! Bank Holiday Special: Part Deux

Well, well, well. We've barely got over the last Bank Holiday Special we threw a couple of weeks ago (aka the craziest Whoa yet) and it's already time to start gearing up for another! Expect the best selection of electronic music, new and old with a few surprises thrown in as always. There will be some sweet drinks deals until 10pm and we'll be rocking the very foundations on which Mono Bar is built until 2 'o' clock in the Gawd damn morning! Now, with no work the next day, we're looking at yet another HUGE party.

I don't know about you guys but I canny wait! Look forward to seeing you all there and in the meantime, as a prelude to the storm, here are some sweet Summer jams to limber you up before the mayhem:

Tuesday 21 April 2009

That was SO 2006...

I just can't not share this with you guys... Sacha Baron Cohen outdoes himself yet again... AMAZING:

MORE GOLD THAN Mr T! - "You wanna get rough? We can get rough"

Here we go again. Like i said we are maaaaaad busy this month and with Bank Holiday out of the way it's time to start gearing up for this month's main bash at Mono. As you may or may not know by now we at Say Whoa have fooking massive egos so it's not enough to just get people to come and have a good ol' knees up, oh no no no, we like to encourage a certain dress code. After much consideration this months theme was narrowed down to a short list of two. Much to Doc McCoy's disappointment, Ben Sherman shirts/ Rockport boots &  a Tudor theme just missed out so we went with the GOLD colour party. Yep thats right, we want you to get all Mr "I'll get the dynamite" T on our ass and break out that bling or just rock some gold clothing. Much like the BBC we can't give any prizes so it's just for fun and a little show of support for your favourite party. As ever there will be drinks promos and the best selection of tracks to get you crunk. Things kick off at 8 and roll on 'till 2. I pity the fool who misses out on this!

A PUBLIC SERVICE?

There are many possible explanations for a face like this. I know what you're thinking but no it's not that he's just got the new "Fun, Fit & 50" through the post and it's not the final round of a Stevie Wonder look-a-like contest. This is a face of pure joy and it makes me think that we really are a public service. Sunday was the Say Whoa! bank holiday special and it went OFF!!!
Normally wearing sunglasses in the cluuuub is only for A-list celebs like P.Diddy, Dean Gaffney and those who dwell in Buddha Lounge but we set it as our theme for the bank holiday party and as ever you people made an effort. It was like a rave for the blind without the dogs & sticks. I'm gonna stick my neck out and say it was our liveliest party to date, so lively in fact that the decks nearly fell off the stage.

All the photos are up as always on our Facebook group so go get your tag on and see you at the next one.

Monday 6 April 2009

SAY WHOA! BANK HOLIDAY SPECIAL.

As previously stated April is going to be a busy one for us at SAY WHOA! and here is where it begins. Sunday 12th sees us putting on a bank holiday special at MONO.
As the sun is starting to show its face we thought we would encourage the wearing of sun glasses, even at night. As ever it will be a night of drinking, bubbles, fun and most of all a cracking sound track. Here's a little something to get you in the mood from Starski & The Cool Kids.

SAY WHOA! BLUE EDITION.

A big thanks goes out to all the Say Whoa! massive for reppin' hard and rocking the right colour scheme once again at our blue party on the 28th of March. Photos are now up on our Facebook group so head on over and see if your mug made the cut. Here is the x-rated version of the blue edition flyer that was unfortunately deemed too naughty to be used.

April is lining up to be a busy one for us so keep it locked to be sure not to miss out.

Saturday the 28th of February was a truly spectacular night and i can't begin to thank everyone for being there and for being a part of it. The Say Whoa! team were very proud to present guest Dj's 2 Bit Thugs (A New Hope Records). Together we joined forces and went all out attack all in order to celebrate, in the usual messy fashion, the release of the A NEW HOPEFULLS EP. Click here and check the ANHR blog for more info.

The Say Whoa! Party Programme are looking dammed right forward to having you onboard for the next episode of our SAY WHOA! colours parties. Saturday the 28th of March is the BLUE edition. So think blue people! Of course this is not a mandatory dress code, entry is free and to be honest you can wear what ever the fuck you want, but the Say Whoa team always like to encourage more fun, messy antics and any excuse for a party. Be sure to come back soon and check for more details.

Over n Out.
